Failure Point 1: The Flight

The DPS–LBJ route is short but operationally quirky, and it decides
whether your Day 1 exists.

• Book the earliest reliable morning departure, not
  the cheapest. You must land by 09:30 for a same-day boarding; the
  07:00–08:00 departures leave buffer for the delays this route is known
  for.
• Carriers and frequency in 2027: multiple daily
  departures across several Indonesian carriers; frequencies expand in dry
  season. Current schedules, fare patterns, and which departure times have

• Afternoon arrival? Then you sleep in Labuan Bajo
  and board next morning — which is not a loss. The town deserves an
  evening, and the Day-0 plan

My standing recommendation: if your international
arrival into Bali is the day before, fly to Labuan Bajo the next
morning. Never chain an international landing into a same-day DPS–LBJ
hop with a boat waiting — one delay cascades through the whole trip.

Failure Point 2: The Return
Buffer

Day 5’s return flight must respect two buffers:

1. Boat-to-airport: the route ends with a land morning
   (Rangko Cave), so you are already ashore — book LBJ–DPS from
   14:00 onward.
2. International connections out of Bali: put a full
   night in Bali between Komodo and any international departure. Weather
   holds on Day 4–5 are rare but real, and my written weather terms (see why trust us) can rebook the boat — they
   cannot rebook your long-haul flight.

All three trip formats run identically from Bali — the flight chain

• Land + sea combo — two nights aboard, two in a
  Labuan Bajo hotel; the format I recommend to most couples and families
  flying in from Bali because it absorbs flight fatigue best: the hybrid plan
• Boat selection — whichever format, the hull matters

FAQ — Komodo From Bali

Can I do a Komodo trip from Bali in 5 days including
flights? Yes — that is precisely this plan. Morning flight out
on Day 1, full route Days 1–4, afternoon flight back on Day 5. You lose
nothing to transit because the route absorbs the flights at its
edges.

Is there a ferry or boat from Bali to Komodo instead of
flying? There are multi-day boat crossings from Lombok/Bali,
but they consume 2–3 days each way in rough open water and I do not
recommend or arrange them for a 5-day window. Fly — the route’s days are
too valuable.

Do I need to change airports or terminals in Bali?
No — DPS domestic and international terminals are adjacent. From south
Bali hotels, allow 60–90 minutes to the airport at dawn; from Ubud,
closer to 2 hours.

What if my DPS–LBJ flight is delayed and I miss the
boat? On the early-morning flights I mandate, a 1–2 hour delay
still makes the 10:15 cast-off cutoff. If a cancellation strands you, my
boats hold departure to early afternoon when feasible, or you join by
speedboat at the Day-1 anchorage — it has happened four times in 300+
departures, resolved all four.

Should I add Bali nights before or after Komodo?
After. Arriving international travelers should buffer one Bali night
before the DPS–LBJ hop; but put your real Bali holiday after Komodo —
you will want the pool days once you have been on a boat.
